Economy got you down? Maybe it shouldn’t…

Posted on March 24th, 2009 by Sandy Reed

I live in a small town in Northern California.  There’s only about 7,500 people that live here, so news travels fast.  Today I was greeted with the news that an entire family from Valley Springs, where I live, was wiped out in the blink of an eye in a plane crash.  A local dentist, his wife, who was a pediatrician, and their two children were on their way to a ski trip in Butte, Montana.  The weather was below freezing and the air was at 100% humidity.  Ice is being looked at as the possible cause of the plane crash that killed 14 people.

This is a shocking bit of news and affects all of us in Valley Springs profoundly.  It shows how little things like the economy can be put into perspective.  How seriously can you really take it, when your life can be gone in the blink of an eye…

What are your priorities?

Posted on March 16th, 2009 by Sandy Reed

A rare copy of the first Superman comic book, which was purchased second-hand for 35 cents in the 1950’s, was recently auctioned off for $317,200.  This is one of the highest prices over paid for a comic book.  Makes you wonder about how seriously to take the recession, doesn’t it?  At least until you take a peak at the unemployment rate these days…

Speaking of priorities, here’s a wonderful video currently, on YouTube, that will help you reconsider yours.  Even when you’re staring down fear and worry, it helps to focus on what’s really important – don’t you think?

When you are working on goals that motivate and energize you, the journey to completion becomes a labor of love, instead of a guilt trip.  Make sure you are working on goals that are important to you – that will enrich your life for the better.  Setting SMART goals will help you decide if your goals are the right goals.  SMART goals are:

Marketing to Women Defying Age and Lovin it…

Posted on March 4th, 2009 by Sandy Reed

I read an interesting statistic in More Magazine recently that amazed even me.  The average number of American women who’ll turn 40 every single day of 2009 is…  5,732!

Women over 40 are a force to be reckoned with and should absolutely be addressed in your marketing plan, if you want to provide products and/or services that will add value to their lives.

Since I fall into the “women over 40″ category, I can tell you that the marketing pieces I receive in the mail, and the ads I see on TV and in magazines appeal to me when they are aimed at me specifically.  I have no interest in reading Teen Magazine because I know what they have to offer will not be helpful to the issues I am facing as a middle-aged, baby boomer woman and business owner.
